This book is basically everything so I find it impossible to talk about it objectively, but the story centres around Anna, a redheaded university dropout who meets and then falls hopelessly in love with the mysterious Flynn. At its core this book leads you through a conflicting and confusing relationship, stopping along the way to dip into the past and help you to understand the complexities of the characters. But what really makes this book so utterly spellbinding and heartbreaking is Horniman’s writing- she has one of those styles that sucks you in instantly and pulls you into the dreamy world of the characters, making you wish that the book could go on forever. Most importantly however- and this you can clearly see thoughout all of her works- she Gets It, making About A Girl the best queer YA book I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.
